What are the Risk Factors for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)?
Brain injury can
happen to anyone. If you are involved in a serious accident, TBI is
almost always a risk. However, there are a few factors that can make you more
susceptible to brain injury. If any of the following criteria apply to you, you
are at a higher risk of sustaining a TBI in any situation:
- Between
15–24 years old
- 75+
years old
- Children ages 5 and younger
Because
children’s brains are still developing, they are much more vulnerable to
serious TBI than most adults. In fact, the National Pediatric Trauma Registry estimates
that over 30,000 children are permanently disabled every year because of brain
injuries. The highest amount of risk occurs after school: almost half of all
children’s brain injuries happen in roads, while the rest occur at home and in
recreational settings.
Additionally,
half of all traumatic brain injuries involve alcohol use – either by the
victim, or by the person who caused the injury.
If you have
suffered a serious brain injury because of someone else’s negligence or
recklessness, please contact
Stephens & Holman today or call toll free (866) 200-3575 to schedule a
free case evaluation. We represent brain injury victims throughout Vancouver,
Delta, Surrey, and all of British Columbia.
