Hit-and-Run Driver Shatters Legs of Surrey Man Recovering from Surgery
A 19-year-old
Colombia native was recovering from a recent surgery when he was struck by a
car early Tuesday evening in Surrey, British Columbia. He was in his wheelchair
at the time of the pedestrian accident,
on his way to dinner at his girlfriend’s parents’ home. He was struck just
before 6PM in the 13300-block of 95A Avenue. The collision caused him to fly out
of the wheelchair and strike the ground. He suffered a broken left clavicle,
broken scapula, and fractures in both legs. The recovery is expected to be
lengthy.
According to
evidence gathered at the scene of the accident, the vehicle that struck the man
is believed to be a dark purple compact car similar to a Honda Civic. Police
are looking for video surveillance from the area. This accident is part of a string
of similar incidents in the Lower Mainland recently. Since 2008, there has been
an annual average of 49,000 hit-and-run accidents in B.C., and an average of 59
pedestrians are killed in accidents each year.
Any time
someone is seriously injured in a car accident
because of the driver’s negligence, the victim deserves to obtain fair
compensation for medical bills, lost income, and other hardships they must
face. However, when the driver flees the scene of the accident, it is a
criminal offense – and the victim is often left without recourse and the
ability to pursue compensation.
If you have
suffered a serious injury in a pedestrian accident or car accident anywhere in
British Columbia, please contact Stephens &
Holman today to schedule a free case evaluation with one of our experienced
Surrey personal injury lawyers. We can help you fully investigate your accident
and fight for fair compensation.

Personal Injury Law
Personal injury law exists to provide fair compensation to
individuals who have been harmed through the negligence or misconduct of
another. Harm can include physical, emotional, or financial injury. A severe personal
injury lawyer with experience in the British Columbia system can help you
pursue justice and compensation if you or a family member have been seriously injured by another party.
Compensation in a personal injury case can include:
- Medical expenses
- Lost income
- Property damage
- Pain and suffering
- Loss of consortium
Auto accidents are one of the most common causes of personal injury, along with truck accidents and motorcycle accidents. Property owners can also be held responsible for injuries that occur due to safety hazards on dangerous premises, such as unsafe
stairs or slippery surfaces.
Additionally, defective products can cause personal injury if safety standards are ignored or
manufacturing defects occur.
If you have suffered an injury due to the negligence or recklessness of another, hiring a personal injury lawyer is an essential step in order to effectively pursue the full amount of compensation you deserve. Our experienced Vancouver personal injury lawyers at Stephens & Holman can help you:
- Obtain witness statements
- Preserve important evidence and accident details
- Evaluate your claim and quantify losses in terms of dollars
- Defend your rights and represent your claim fairly while negotiating with insurance companies
